Don't be a Bride or Groom Douche: Some Wedding Etiquette

‘Tis the Indian Wedding Season and many from my cohort and above are getting married. I have an abundance of close friends involved in several weddings at a time. In fact, I have a friend who is not only the MOH (maid of honor) at her sister’s wedding but also at her best friend’s in addition to being a bride’s maid to another. I’m sure you can relate: weddings are a part time job for many of us. It’s understandable that when you’re the Bride or Groom things can be pretty chaotic and crazy for you. We forgive you for being headstrong, selfish at times and extremely difficult to work with. There are some boundaries that you tend to cross and we tend to over look because we love you. But you better check yourself before you wreck yourself. Indian weddings are turning up the heat. They are BIGGER not only in size but have become a huge theatrical production with costumes, monkeys, movie clips, dance performances, and the whole works. (And I thought proposals were the only thing becoming ...

Special K for your thoughts.

I’ve decided to not be the type of person that wakes up every morning and reads the news. I used to read the Metro on my way to work every day. “Gunshot wound”…“Global warming… the world is going the end”… “100, 000 jobs lost”… “Not enough hospital beds”… “Waste of tax payer’s money”…. “Leaf’s lose again!” Like come on! What’s the point in going into work if you’re going to get shot? Even if you make it in, there is no point in working because the world is going to end. If you somehow manage to live another day you might end up losing your job. That of course may lead to severe depression and a possible heart attack which will land me in an overcrowded hospital without beds. All because the Canadian government used up our tax dollars to fund the G20 summit…. Oh and the Leaf’s lost! What a way to start off your morning? Total mind f*kc. Perhaps this is why many people begin their mornings with prayer. I, on the other hand, begin my day with my Facebook mini-feed. How dare you judge ...

Old Shelves

I never truly understood the saying “forgive and forget”. It is hard enough to differentiate our feelings from someone or something that hurt us, let alone forget it all together? I must admit, I haven’t quite mastered the skill of forgiveness, which according to my work mom (yes, I had a work mom when I worked at Rogers!) meant the same thing as forgetting. Work mom also pointed out that I have a tendency to hold grudges. But I know that if I’m holding a grudge it’s because I’ve made it quite clear that forgiveness has not been granted to you. This whole paragraph pretty much sums up my issues related to grudges and forgiveness- clearly! It’s something that I know I need to work on. Part of the People Detox is letting go and you can’t let go of someone or something if you’re planning on holding a grudge. It’s a catch 22 for me, I want to let it go, but I don’t know how, maybe I can figure out how, but will it be convincing enough?! Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City wrote, “Can you...

What is she really saying 'yes' to?

Since we're 'ALL' getting engaged lately.. What ever happened to realistic marriage proposals? Don't get me wrong. I'm not old fashioned nor am I hating. But things have definitely gotten out of hand (don't even get me started on destination: EVERYWHERE Bach parties). I'm in my late twenties, everywhere I turn people are either talking about getting engaged/married or actually getting engaged/married. It's great because it comes with my age. It's natural to think about settling down and starting a family. Great. But, what's up with this ever growing pissing contest of which man can come up with a better "Will you marry me...."? Just hear me out. What ever happened to classy, thoughtful and romantic proposals? I mean seriously, have you heard about Seal and Heidi Klum's proposal? I don't care how much you make, but building a customized igloo on top of Whistler for the purpose of proposing is a little over the top. Haterade asi...

Get what you want.

Elements of RPM (Results, Purpose, Massive action plan) 1)       Specifically ask for what you want   More often than not, you are getting what you ask for. But you don’t realize how "generally" you are asking. CLARITY IS POWER the more specifically you ask the more clear it is for your brain to go after exactly what it is that you’re looking for. You have to know specifically what you are after. You have to know the result of what you are looking for. 2)       Purpose, why do you want this   Reasons come first, the answers come second. You have to know what you want to build the drive to want it. If you do not have enough reasons to want something you are not going to make it happen 3)       What is your Massive Action plan What is it going to take to actually get you there? The first plan and the second plan may not work, are you prepared? Do you have many back up plans.   For more in...

Me time @ Tea time

February 28th 2011: I've been feeling a little out of my element since January. Really, it's getting out of hand. This is an extremely crucial year that is going to define me for the rest of my life. But for some reason I don't  feel challenged and I don't seem to feel bothered by it as well. To sum it up, I feel MEH. Where is my drive? Where is my focus? Where is my desire? Like who do I think I am? I can't even explain how upset I've been with myself lately.... *  *  * I obviously needed a little push. A little reminder that I don't own a magic wand (e-Bay's got 'em if anyone's interested), haven't won the lottery (YET!), and I'm not some disguised princess living a middle class life either. ...
