Good thoughts become good things. Bad thoughts become bad things. Thoughts become things.
There are times we can't control what happens to us or what's happening around us. The only thing we can control is ourselves and how we react to it. Perception is everything. We feel and react based on our perception of the situation. So it's plausible to say that if we change our perception, we can change how we feel and thus how we react. Perception correlates with self-control. If you have self-control, you can control your perception. Defining self-control is difficult and quite subjective, for the purpose of this equation let's focus on one aspect of self-control. This is what I call the SAP (Self Administered Pause).
When I'm dealt a difficult hand I give myself a minute to SAP. I take a deep breath and tell myself that thoughts become things. If I choose to think the worst, this situation will in fact consume me and become worse. If I choose to think for the better, this situation will suck but I won't let it control me and in the end, it won't be as bad. So, even if we can't control a situation or others, we can in fact, gain control by changing our perception.

I just happened across your blog and although it's clearly geared towards the fairer sex (which I am not a part of) I enjoy the ideas behind it. Your writing style is great and you always make a point to not offend people with your strong views. So from the perspective of a random dude you're doing great and I'm definitely looking forward to the next one (I have you bookmarked). I am officially a fan. If I could suggest maybe doing something geared towards dudes you might be able to gain more readership. Just a thought. Keep up the good work stranger.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment! Likewise on the great writing style. You make a good connection with your reader. (I've read some of your posts as well) I'll keep your suggestion in mind for my next post. Happy Holidays!
